LuckyFABB

Oh, hi there. What a crazy week this has been. I’ve been in NY for NYFW and LuckyFABB and now I’m so sick– of course that’s how it would go. Thought I’d fill you all in on LuckyFABB 2. What a day! As luck would have it, the weather was anything but cooperative and I had to forgo my original outfit [[fave Vena Cava skyline print dress]] and went with jeans and a green silk button down. My love Liz was coming with me– super exciting because she just moved back from Venice beach and I haven’t seen her in so, so long. Before I even arrived at the Apella, Liz was texting me while I was in the cab. She was overwhelmed by the many fashionistas– apparently I was in for a treat.

I understand it was a fashion blog conference, but it was pouring outside. There were girls in silk short-shorts, evening wear, and insane strappy stilettos. It was kind of ridiculous– as if they went through their closets and picked out the most showy/recognizeable designer pieces. It’s great that you have those new [[Miu Mius, Louboutins, Louboutins, Louboutins]] and that [[Celine, Proenza, Proenza, Proenza]] bag, but it was a real shit show-off show. We’re fashion bloggers– shouldn’t we be exuding some personal style and not samesamesamesame?

Anyway! We scored some great seats and took in all of the amazing speakers. Diane Von Furstenberg [[btw she pronounces her name Dee-ahn]] was fabulous– inspiring and encouraging of women forging their own paths, creating their own businesses. [[She also showed off her new Harper Connect bag- a gorgeous, structured purse that hides your iPad in the back for easy access.]]

We enjoyed all of the panels and speakers- everyone had tons of helpful advice and encouragement to share. As a new blogger, I felt I learned a lot from industry vets and more established bloggers. It was also really great to meet many of the awesome ladies behind my favorite blogs. The conference itself was great, but different from the first FABB. This time there were almost double the bloggers (125/250) which meant doing away with the conference tables, making it kinda difficult to type/write/tweet. But overall, I wouldn’t change anything. It’s so great that Lucky puts this together and they did a great job. Caroline Waxler, their digital media director, is so fantastic and organized a phenomenal event.

I’d have to say that even though I came face to face with some of the most respected folks in fashion [[DVF, Coco Rocha, Rachel Roy, Rebecca Minkoff to name a few]] I was almost more excited to hear from and meet my favorite Lucky editors. John Jannuzzi is so adorable and Jean Godfrey-June is such an inspiration and idol of mine– her writing style is amazing and I was geeking out that she was there.

One of the most exciting things about FABB were the awesome gifting suites. At Zappos we took fun photo booth pics with crazy props and were given Butter nail polish and Zappos gift cards. [[Oh, and cookies.]] At J Brand we were able to preview and try on some of their awesome new styles and got to pick a pair of our own. [[Could I be more excited about that? I live in J Brand.]] At White House Black Market we styled looks using pieces from their fall collection. At Marshalls we played “Price is Right” and had to guess the Marshalls price based on the original price. I won an amazing black Theory jacket by guessing the exact price (originally $550, Marshalls price: $129). [[Liz laughed because only a few people heard my guess and the 'host' almost gave it to the girl who guessed a close price and I had to be like, helloooo... excuse me I guessed the exact price. Or as I explained to my sister, "playa pleeeez- I am at TJ Maxx every week of course I know how much it costs"]] At the Timberland giving suite we styled winter looks and they gave the looks away to women in need. We also got to choose our own pair of boots. At LeSportsac we designed our own purses and makeup bags with Erica Domesek from PS I Made This. At Sorel we played Sorel Mad Libs and chose new winter boots. And, throughout the day ideeli held private LuckyFABB sales. We didn’t have time to hit the Express room. Most disappointing, though, was that by the time I got to the Essie suite, they had given away all of their gift bags with their new fall colors. Worst!

After the day of panel discussions we were treated to a great cocktail hour [[and too many glasses of champagne]] and a performance by Ellie Goulding [[who happens to be Liz's fave]] and then we took in the awards ceremony. They recognized some bloggers I follow religiously [[IntoTheGloss, Honestly... WTF, Textbook, etc.]] with nominations and awards.

When we left we were presented with huge LeSportsac duffel bags stuffed with swag [[or, as Michael Scott says, Stuff We All Get]] I think Brandon told us they are valued at over $1200. Insane! Especially in addition to the amazing gifting suites. I’m already wearing some of the bracelets and am excited about the other products like my first Birchbox , my new La Mer Collection wrap watch, Stephanie Johnson pouch… [[I'll definitely be posting about more of the goodies we received. It is A LOT.]] Oh, one more thing! Zappos is offering Closet Vanity readers the opportunity to become Zappos VIP members (free overnight shipping and more) click here! hurry! Expires September 30!

Look I styled for Timberland at their giving booth - will be donated to Peace House

Oh, hey! There I am waiting for a blogger to ask the Ks a question.

Awesome! How’d you get into FW??

  2. [...] Lucky is far and above one of my favorite fashion magazines. It translates runway fashion to real life and offers great styling and beauty tips. The other great thing about Lucky? It’s accessibility and connection with it’s readers. Their editors answer questions on Twitter and the magazine regularly features real girls and not a carousel of models. When other magazines were of unsure what to make of fashion and beauty bloggers, Lucky celebrated them on the pages of the magazine, on their website and new Lucky Style Collective, and went beyond the call of duty when they launched their innovative FABB conference.
